It's not so much the sport, it's the grunting I can't stand

You can't help but notice. It's a bit of a sporty summer. It's a wet one. But there's plenty of sport going on. I hate most sport. I'll watch an occasional rugby match, and K is keen on Formula 1, so I see a lot of that, but on the whole I can live without it. Specially tennis.

I can just about cope with that 'twang twang' noise as the ball hits the cat gut. And the crowds are very well behaved (Not like football fans. Shouty, roaring, chanting and just plain offensive.) No, what puts me off tennis is the weird sounds the players make.

A couple of days ago I got  home from work and made the mistake of switching on the TV. Two women were playing and one of them emitted a high pitched 'BING' every time the ball made contact with her racquet. It was a proper racket, I can tell you. I don't know who she was for two reasons: 1) They all sound as if they come from the Eastern bloc and have names that seem to end in -inska; and 2) frankly I don't care.

If I'd been playing against her I'd have complained. If I'd had to watch the match I'd have been driven insane within less than 15 minutes. I think I lasted about six returns before I had to switch her off. It was awful!

Ah yes. That was a very noisy match and i had the same thought that if i'd been playing against her(in my dreams) then I'd have complained.

However I have to disagree - dislike most sport but LOVE tennis.

Today's match wasn't that noisy AJ. It's only the odd one. Not like the formula 1 - now that is annoyingly ear splitting. ;)

AJ this was so funny. I am so annoyed by those sorts of things too. The grunts and such.I am sure it is exerting but it is also sort of sickening.

I absolutely LOVE Wimbledon but I'm totally with you on all the weird noises they make nowadays! They never used to do that. When it gets too much I just turn the sound off. I hope to watch the men's final tomorrow. Thankfully it will be shown after our church time, so I'll be home in time to see it. It will be a recording of course, but I won't peek to see who the winner was. Federer has been one of my favorites for years, but for Murray to be in the final for the UK after 76 years I'm going to be hard put to know who to cheer for.

Personally have little time for any sport. 76 years! We must be rotten at most sports since it has beeen decades since we won anything useful and I wonder why we bother to compete at all. As for grunting noises, I had never watched long enough to hear them, switching to the Simpsons or Bargain Hunt or anything, even parliment TV, rather than watch two people bouncing a little ball around with fly swatters.

I guess they have other things to think about. What I find really really really distracting is that some classical musicians grunt or moan or kind of half sing along when they are playing - you[re supposed to be listening hard for heavens sake! I think their teachers should train them not to do this when they are young!!

Some of us moan and groan outwardly, others keep it to ourselves - either way it's not good for the soul :} !!
